William K. Busch, heir of watered-down (sadly) American Busch beers, is to unveil the first offerings from his new brewery, William K. Busch Brewing Co. Not-so-shockingly, they’re two lagers, "similar to Budweiser and Bud Light." The St. Louis-based brewery’s Kraftig Lager and Kraftig Light are to be all-malt, brewed only with the four original ingredients used to define beer; barley malt, hops, yeast and water. Although I’m not too keen on more Bud-like brews lining our shelves, I’m happy to hear that Busch will not be using rice, corn or other additives to reduce cost.
According to Busch, he chose the name Kraftig because "we wanted a brand name that reflects my family’s German brewing heritage, and we wanted it to make a statement about the strength of our commitment."
Here’s hoping Mr. Busch stands firm in choosing only true ingredients for his beers, even if they are modeled after Anheuser-Busch standards. The masses could use some additive-free brews.
