Lagunitas Maximus IPA Review #38

Lagunitas Maximus IPA
Style: Imperial/Double IPA
ABV: 8.2%
12oz Bottle Poured Into A Dogfish Head Snifter

Lagunitas Brewing Company
Lagunitas, California
Tony Magee
1993

At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt that the only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh hops and malt. Caution: May remove enamel from teeth. This is Lagunitas IPA pumped up by about 30%!

Appearance:
Starts Out With A Fluffy White Head
Head Dissipates Quickly
Honey/Orange Color
Spot Lacing
Light Carbonation (Shoots From Bottom To The Top)

Aroma:
Big League Chew
Spruce
Resin
Grapefruit
Tangerine
Perfume Aroma

Mouth Feel:
Medium To Heavy Bodied Beer
Sour/Bitter Balance (Slight Salty Taste)
Moderately Refreshing
High Drinkability
Good Malt Balance
Soft Silky Mouth Feel

The first sip brings on toffee, orange and honey. The thick chewy dense front coats your palate in a hoppy flavor and then hits you with a citric tang. There is a firm bitterness at the end almost like biting into a grapefruit. The high alcohol content is masked very well in this beer.
